I know some of you might be wondering how to use Heat Wave beyond just spicing up sauces or meals for those who love a serious kick. There are actually so many ways to incorporate it! When I created this blend, I honestly thought I was a little crazy. This is the only blend that literally makes me tear up while mixing it! So, trust me when I say, a little goes a longgg way with Heat Wave.
Now, I wouldn’t call myself a daredevil when it comes to extreme heat, but I do love a good kick every now and then. That’s why I crafted this blend. Heat Wave may be intense, but it’s packed with flavor too. One dish that instantly comes to mind when I think about flavor and heat is Asun.
Asun Recipe
So, what exactly is Asun? It’s a popular Nigerian dish made from spicy grilled goat meat, usually cooked over an open flame, then tossed in a flavorful pepper mix. It's a simple yet bold dish, known for its rich flavors and fiery heat. Typically, it's made with fresh peppers like scotch bonnets or habaneros, giving it that signature spicy kick. Asun is perfect as an appetizer, snack, or even a main dish, and it's a favorite for anyone who enjoys spicy food.
I don't have a grill at home, so I made this in the oven, and let me tell you, it still turns out delicious!
Ingredients:
- Goat meat (Preferably with skin. Goat meat is recommended, but feel free to experiment with other types of meat.)
- 1 large onion (half sliced)
- 1-2 small Habanero or Scotch Bonnet (adjust to preference)
- ½ tsp of Heat Wave (adjust to preference)
- salt
- bouillon cubes or powder
Instruction:
-
Marinate the Meat:
Start by marinating the goat meat with chopped onion, ½ tsp of salt, and 1-2 tsp of bouillon powder (adjust based on the amount of meat you're using). Let it marinate for at least 1 hour to soak in all the flavors.
-
Steam the Meat:
After marinating, place the meat in a pot and steam it for 5-10 minutes on medium heat to release its natural moisture. No need to add water or oil. If you're grilling the meat over an open flame, you can skip this step if you prefer. -
Bake or Grill:
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Bake the goat meat for 35-40 minutes, turning halfway through to ensure it cooks evenly. -
Prepare the Pepper Mix:
While the meat is cooking, blend the peppers and the other half of the large onion into a coarse mixture (you don’t want it too smooth). Transfer the blend to a bowl, and season with ½ tsp of Heat Wave, 1 tsp of salt, and 1 tsp of bouillon powder. Mix everything together.
-
Cut and Sear the Meat:
Once the meat is cooked, cut it into bite-sized pieces (warning: this step is irresistible—only the strongest will resist sneaking a bite). Transfer the meat to a large skillet, wok, or cast-iron pan, and add ¼ - ½ cup of water, depending on the amount of meat. Let it steam for about 5 minutes on medium-high heat, making sure the water evaporates completely before moving on to the next step. -
Add the Pepper Mix:
Add the blended pepper mix and sliced onions to the pan and let everything steam together for another 5 minutes to soak up all those spicy flavors. - Serve your Asun with a chilled drink and savor every bite!
